The Broken Bow/Hochatown Area is one of the most beautiful parts of Oklahoma!
Beavers Bend State Park offers numerous wooded and waterfront trails and the lake is gorgeous. After your hike, Hochatown has so many neat restaurants and shops to recharge and relax! One of the most unique features, in addition to the amazing scenery, are the luxurious cabins!
Hike!!
Beavers Bend State Park is one of the most beautiful State Parks in Oklahoma! It covers over 1,300 acres and is situated in the Ouachita National Forest. The park includes access to the Mountain Fork River and Broken Bow Lake, offering a wide variety of outdoor activities!
Over 15 miles of trails traverse Beavers Bend State Park, ranging from short and easy walks to longer more challenging trails. Some of my favorites are:
Friends Trail Loop: Easy/Moderate 1.5 mile loop – This trail is one of the more popular in the park, so it may be heavily traveled, but has some amazing views of the Lower Mountain Fork River.
Tree Trail: Easy 1.2 mile loop – We do this trail every time we visit just for a quick and easy trail to get our dogs ready for hiking! This trail starts at the Forest Heritage Center and initially follows along Beaver Creek. This trail can be crowded near the trailhead, due to the access to Beaver Creek, but thins out once you get along the main trail.
Mountain Fork River Trail: Moderate 1 Mile Out & Back Trail – This is a great, predominately flat trail that provides views of the Mountain Fork Riverbank. Our dogs love the water and having a Husky here in Oklahoma, she can heat up pretty quickly. So having access to water for her to take a dip in along the trail is a lifesaver!
Beavers Bend State Park offers tons of longer and more challenging trails as well! Check out more details here: Trail Map

Eat!
There are so many fun and unique places to grab a drink and snack after a morning hike! A few places are on our list every time we visit. But we always make sure to mix in a few new spots to try!
Cooking is most certainly not where I shine, so when we travel, eating out is the way to go! But it’s always nice to have something on hand to snack on in the morning or for late night. On our last trip, a new Market had just opened, Local 259. It’s the perfect spot to stop in for groceries, prepared foods and amazing desserts!
Grateful Head Pizza: If we only eat in one restaurant during our stay, it’s Grateful Head Pizza! The pizza is amazing and perfect after a morning of hike. The restaurant also provides a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere, including a great patio space (if the weather is nice).
Naaman’s BBQ: This spot was new to us on our most recent trip to Hochatown, but will be a regular on our list for sure! We got food to-go, so we could get home to our pups. But the atmosphere was so inviting and included plenty of outdoor space in addition. We got a mix of smoked meats that were amazing! But! The Cheesy Corn was one of my favorites!
Stay!
I’m usually a State Park Cabin girl, but! I’ve actually never stayed in a Beavers Bend State Park Cabin. We’ve loved our stays through AirBnb at several of the local cabins in and around Hochatown. These cabins offer high end amenities and beautiful views (you can book directly with many of the Cabin Hosts).
Many of these cabins are in a neighborhood setting, so they aren’t super secluded, but have large enough lots that you often get unobstructed wooded views and can offer a very private feel. For us, this is the perfect mix of nature, while still being able to pop in to town to hike a trail or grab a bite to eat!
Here are some of our favorites:
Just Chillin – This 1 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom cabin was a perfect location and had a lot of great outdoor space! The firepit out back was ideal for spring evenings! It is located in a neighborhood setting, so it’s easily accessible, but was secluded enough that we couldn’t see any of the surrounding cabins.
The cabin is beautifully designed, blending rustic charm with modern comfort. The spacious interior made it feel like a home away from home, with all the amenities you could ask for—plush bedding, a fully equipped kitchen, and a cozy living area perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.

8 Oaks – This is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin that has an amazing back deck and bathroom!! The lot is a bit smaller, so you are more aware of the neighboring cabins, but it was a very nice quiet area. It’s also super close to tons of restaurants for an easy trip back to town! We stayed last fall right in the middle of Football Season and loved sitting out back and watching games on the deck after a day of hiking and exploring!

I hope you enjoy your adventures in Broken Bow, Oklahoma! Drop a comment to let me know what your favorite spots are!!
