Greenleaf State Park, Oklahoma….One of Our New Favorite Parks!

Greenleaf State Park had been high high on my list of Oklahoma State Parks to visit for quite some time and this February, we finally made time for a visit. It was everything I’d hoped and is now one of my favorite Oklahoma State Parks!

Located in Braggs Oklahoma, Greenleaf is near Tenkiller State Park, another real treasure in north east Oklahoma. Greenleaf State Park is a bit off the beaten path and provides a beautiful drive through the hills of eastern Oklahoma and is a quiet destination, perfect for relaxing and unwinding.

Stay!!

The cabins at Greenleaf are really unique spaces that were built in the 1930’s through the WPA, with stone walls and exposed beams. The cabins have a cool feel and comfortable amenities. We stayed in Cabin 5 (a one bedroom one bathroom cabin) and loved it!

There are two main things that made Cabin 5 one of the best options! Cabin 5 has a screened in porch with two really nice chairs. During our stay we had a little rain and were able to sit outside and enjoy being outside and listen to the soft rain. It would also be really nice for summer evenings to sit outside without having to worry about bugs and such.

The cabin also faces away from the main cabin road, so your front door opens to a beautiful wooded view rather than the road or other cabins. The cabins are all in row/loop type, so it was nice to face away from the other cabins and have a bit more privacy. This layout also provided a loop driveway so it all around felt like we had a bit more space around the cabin to hang out. There are a few other cabins that looked like they would have great lake views, which is a big plus, but all and all the feel of Cabin 5 would be my #1 pick on a return visit.

Hike!!

Greenleaf State Park has a really extensive trail system including an 18 mile loop through the park and into surrounding areas. I will admit, I didn’t do enough prep work before our trip and had a little trouble following where the trail intersected with the nearby highway (SH-10). Before our next trip, I’ll need to get a better handle on the overall trail system. Check out this link for more information on the trail system: TravelOK Trail System Site.

I also snapped a picture of the trail system map you can check out below.

Even though we meandered a bit more than I’d planned, we had a great hike and found plenty of beauty and tucked away natural views. Pretty early in our walk, we cut across a bit of a land bridge and to see the dam area which draws in a lot of birds, an area worth checking out. During our hike we also saw natural inclines, mossy rocks and although you are near the park roads and SH-10, the trails have an inviting and secluded feel.

Quick video of our walk to the dam…

Overall, Greenleaf State Park is a great destination for anyone wanting to unplug, unwind and explore. Although we visited in the winter, this is an amazing summer designation when the lake is accessible.

Although the park is addressed in Braggs, if you have any last minute items you need or are looking for groceries, Gore Oklahoma is your best bet for grocery stores, restaurants and such.

We’ll look forward to seeing all this park has to offer again and during another season!
