Osage Hills State Park in Oklahoma offers beautiful views including wooded hiking trails, rocky bluffs and running streams. It’s located in northern Oklahoma just outside of Bartlesville. We visited for for the first time this fall. It is the perfect season, the trees have begun to change offering amazing landscapes.
The Park is an easy drive from Tulsa making it a wonderful day trip option! It’s also about two and a half hours from the Oklahoma City Metro, so it’s on the longer side for a day road trip, but still absolutely worth the drive. The park also offers cabins tucked right along the trails that provide a great weekend trip.
Hiking!!
Osage Hills State Park has four main hiking trails (it also has three mountain biking trails if you are interested!! ). We started with the Falls Trail (park near the swimming pool — There is also a restroom near by in case you’ve just finished a long drive!)
Falls Trail (0.50 mile): This quick trail includes views of small waterfalls and Sand Creek. It is the perfect way to start a longer hike by connecting to the Cabin Trail!
Cabin Trail (1.3 miles): A beautifully wooded trail offering views of Sand Creek and connecting to Creek Trail.
Creek Trail (1.3 miles): I’d definitely recommend the Creek Trail Loop. It is an easy trail that includes gorgeous views from bluffs along the creek. This would be a perfect spot for a picnic lunch and provided us with a great spot to stop an rest a bit.
Tower/Lake Loop (1.9 miles): Wooded and quiet trail provided lake views and a peaceful walk through nature!
All of the trails at Osage Hills provided amazing views of the changing leaves and natural water features. Visiting during the fall season was beautiful, but there is no doubt Osage Hills State Park would be a great spot to visit year round. All of the trails were also on the easy side, providing a great connection to nature, but not too challenging for the hikers just starting out or working on getting back in shape!
If you are in the area, also check out Blue Stem Falls and the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve for a full day of adventure!
